86,400

86,400, thanks to Kris Allen, is probably the most popular number these days.  Not sure what I’m talking about?  Turn on the radio for a few moments and you’re bound to hear it mentioned in the song, “Live Like We’re Dying”.  It’s the number of seconds in a day.  We don’t often break down life to the second, instead, we just wonder where the year’s gone!  We all “swear” that time is speeding up as we get older.  I’m currently in the middle of a road trip excursion through Texas and New Mexico.  It really hasn’t been much to do about the road though.  It’s been a flashback trip about reconnecting with people that have meant so much to us in years past, people that have become a part of who we are.  Our lives intertwined somewhere along the journey and now they share a part of our future also.  Ashley and I moved to Albuquerque from New York in ’93 to serve at First Family Church.  We celebrated our first anniversary there, had Karley there, and we tried our best to live our 6 years there to the fullest.  Now, eleven years after moving to Alabama, this trip back has left me feeling comfortably full.  Some things changed incredibly (mostly for the better) and many things that should never change, haven’t. For me, New Mexico was all about people & nature, both of which is God’s.  GOD + PEOPLE + NATURE = a FULL LIFE. If you’re feeling a bit empty, I encourage you to break your day down to the second…”turn it all around or throw it all away, we gotta tell em that we love em while we got the chance to say”.  Spending seconds is like spending cash – sometimes we waste it and sometimes we invest it.  Invest more & have a great day!

  1. That is so true honey-thanks for your words!

  2. That is one of mine & Kater’s “car-dancing” tunes. The staggering perspective of 86,400 seconds in a day…makes you pause! God help us to use that time for HIM!!!!

  3. I like this song too, I didn’t know who sang it because I didn’t watch Idol last year. I saw this guy on the Ford commercials though. Then I saw him singing it on tv and said HEY !thats the Ford commercial guy! And my daughter quickly informed me that his name was Kris Allen. Who knew? All that to say, when you hear 86,400 it seems so great but, it is only as great as you make each one of those seconds.

  4. Great insight, Matt. If we, I, can learn to love every one I meet with “Calvary Love” as Robert Coleman refers to it, then I would be more conscious of the importance of every encounter with other people. I pray that the Holy Spirit would make us conscious that every person we encounter no matter the situation that we would be Jesus touching their life.

  5. Matt, God has given you an awsome way with words. I know who Kris Allen is but have not heard the song. But I will. You have given me alot to think about, and you are so right .God Bless you, Ashley & your children. Tell Ashley how much i enjoy her cd, and how blessed I feel everytime I hear it. Ya’ll are and are going to be blessing so many people. Anyone that crosses ya’lls path or comes in contact with ya’ll are so very BLESSED. And will never forget you. We miss you, are praying for you & can’t wait to see you. Love Debbie & T.C.
